The Cellar

A 1200 year old jewel

The fortification tower of the castle of Meleto, which would later become Barberino, was almost certainly built by the Lombards probably in a period between 600 and 800 AD. Of the vessels of that era today only a few traces remain scattered throughout the property, but there is no doubt that what is now the cellar of Villa Barberino refers precisely to that period. Dug into the rock and buried underground, the cellar is made up of three large rooms and a long brick corridor that unites all the interiors. His visit is incredibly suggestive and full of charm, also because inside there are over 4000 bottles of 850 different labels among the best in Tuscany.
